It’s been a long week for me. Yesterday was my first day off in over a week. I was tired. So tired that I can’t really remember the conversation at thanksgiving dinner. I remember my grandma accidentally collapsing the table I was sitting at, thankfully mom caught the pies. So typical Richcreek dinner!
My family had family come in from out of town. The strangest part of that is that it now includes my sister, Anna, who is my best friend, who is far more interested in her boyfriend than me. But I took her out to coffee Wednesday morning and enjoyed the small moments together.
We went out to a theater production and saw my grandpa publicly humiliated (by choice 😉). My aunt, who lives out of state, thought it would be an excellent Christmas gift, and it was. We all had a fantastic time and my sister even curled my hair!! (Picture above!!)
Since last week was Thanksgiving, this is: what am I thankful for at the moment?
So freaking much.
Air
My job, which I still like
The people at my job who gave my life meaning again
My parents’ willingness to take care of me
My sister and grandparents and family who all help me daily.
Friends, whom I spent way too long without seeing.
The people who helped me get here- therapists, teachers, aides, friends, and family who never gave up on me.
A warm house
Smell of coffee
To walk and talk and eat
My health being great all things considering
And just to be alive.
A long time ago, so long I forget when, I got into a habit of saying the simplest little prayer in the world, “Thank you, God”. Every morning, that is one of my first thoughts. I say it multiple times throughout my day without even realizing it, and it’s the last thing I say in nightly prayers. So I have multiple mini thanksgivings throughout my day, every day. It helps me to appreciate the small things.
So that’s what I try to do: be thankful for the little things.
That’s what I do, Lacey. Thank God for the things that He gives me each day, and to remember the small things.
Sometimes the small things are the greatest gifts ever. BTY, that’s the first time a table has fallen down!! First time for everything.
